Forest Listening (2019-2024)
Forest Listening is an audio-visual installation that explores the soundscape of a rainstorm from inside forest earth. The field recording of raindrops crashing into dry earth was gathered in the Forest of Mar, Scotland, in June 2018.
The banners are a sound visualisation technique that translates and augments the unnoticed sonic depths of the sylvan soundscape.
This installation presents an alternative sensory perspective of the woodland and forms part of a wider body of practice-based research that considers the importance of forests in the time of climate and ecological breakdown.
Forest Listening was made in partnership with Surrey Hills Arts and supported by Techne Doctoral Training Partnership, Watts Artist Village and the National Trust.
